SAF is proud to welcome Hosei University to its growing network of top-tier global partners.
A leading institution in Japan, Hosei is widely recognized for its forward-thinking, globally engaged approach to education. It is part of the prestigious MARCH group – comprising Meiji, Aoyama Gakuin, Rikkyo, Chuo, and Hosei – considered among the most respected private universities in Tokyo.
Founded in 1880, Hosei has long championed the values of liberty and progress, and in 2014, it outlined a comprehensive Global Policy aimed at expanding international access to its programs. Since then, the university has steadily built a globally minded campus, establishing ties with over 260 institutions worldwide and offering English-based degree programs across multiple faculties and graduate schools.
Though SAF Japan has engaged with Hosei University since 2018, first connecting at the global NAFSA conference and participating in Hosei’s annual study abroad fairs since 2019, this new agreement marks the first formal partnership between the two institutions.
To launch the collaboration, SAF participated in Hosei’s Career Guidance session on March 21, 2025, introducing its “Exchange Program + IES Internship Program” to around 80 students preparing to study abroad in fall 2025.

Organized by Hosei’s International Center and Career Center, the session offered practical advice on everything from visas and finances to preparing for life after study abroad. For many Japanese students, this means starting the job search as early as their third year, so they can move directly into employment after graduation. SAF was invited to introduce its unique model that combines academic study with internship experience, a flexible, forward-looking option for students eager to make the most of their time abroad. The response was immediate, with several students reaching out to learn more.
“We are delighted to welcome Hosei University to the SAF network,” said Natsuko Kambayashi, Assistant Director, University Relations & Program Development (SAF Japan).
“With Hosei’s addition, all five MARCH universities are now part of the SAF network, a reflection of our strong relationships with Japan’s most forward-thinking institutions. While Hosei already has an impressive network of exchange partners, they see real potential in working with SAF to expand their outbound mobility. We’re excited to support that vision by offering opportunities beyond traditional exchange programs and look forward to getting to know Hosei students, and help them find international experiences that best suit their goals.”
