A history of shaping China’s scholars
Founded in 1954, CUC has steadily grown over the decades into one of China’s most prestigious institutions – an impressive feat in a country renowned for its fiercely competitive academic landscape.
This Beijing-based university gained national recognition through its central role in China's bold educational reforms of the 1990s. Initiatives like the 211 Project and Project 985 aimed to elevate Chinese research and academic standards at the time, positioning a select group of local universities to develop into world-class institutions. Already a national leader, CUC became a key beneficiary of these programs, representing the best that China had to offer on the global stage.
Today, CUC remains a front-runner among China’s universities, most recently included in the Double First-Class Initiative, which focuses on developing world-class academic disciplines. This recognition is a testament to CUC’s continued record of excellence and commitment to pedagogical innovation in the 21st century.
To commemorate the 70th anniversary, SAF’s Vice President for Strategy, New Business Initiatives & Analytics, Amber Mercier, shared a congratulatory message, expressing SAF’s deep gratitude for the long-standing cooperation between SAF and CUC, and reflecting on the meaningful exchanges and accomplishments achieved together over the years.
“The Communication University of China has had a close partnership with SAF for almost 15 years, giving students access to study abroad programs of the highest order,” she said.
