Introduction

As an international student, I participated in the 2024 London School of Economics Summer Language Program. As a philosophy major with a strong interest in political economy, my experience through SAF exceeded all my expectations.

Personally, completing the Preparation course helped me overcome my fear of giving presentations in English and boosted my confidence in using spoken English.

The International Relations course at LSE deepened my understanding of the complexities of global politics. Although my major is philosophy, this course made me realize that analyzing issues through a political economy lens can lead to entirely different insights. LSE's teaching goes beyond theoretical discussions—it emphasizes real-world case studies, making learning both engaging and practical. Moreover, I noticed significant differences between LSE’s academic research methods and those in my home country, providing me with a valuable opportunity to compare and contrast different educational approaches. This cross-cultural learning experience has been incredibly rewarding.

Cultural and Social Experience

Beyond academics, the multicultural environment at LSE was another highlight of my experience. More than half of LSE’s students are international, bringing diverse perspectives and ways of thinking. Through conversations with my classmates from around the world, I not only deepened my understanding of global affairs but also witnessed the dynamic exchange of different cultures. This cross-cultural interaction broadened my horizons beyond my academic field and allowed me to approach issues with a more open mindset.

During my month in London, I engaged with local students, gaining firsthand insight into British society. I also made friends from across the globe, and together, we explored every corner of London. From shopping on Oxford Street to enjoying casual gatherings in local pubs, every day was filled with unexpected surprises. Even the simplest moments—such as sharing a meal with friends at a small restaurant—became cherished memories.

Final Thoughts

Through SAF’s summer program, I experienced significant academic growth, made friends from around the world, and embraced a rich multicultural environment. This experience has been invaluable to me.
