Academics

On its 1,200-acre coastal campus, UC San Diego’s academic environment is exceptional. Its state-of-the-art facilities house a research powerhouse with over 100 research centers, including the Franklin Antonio Hall and Qualcomm Institute where interdisciplinary engineering innovation thrives. Here, students work alongside world-class faculty, who are among the most published globally in computational fields, and have access to a supercomputer and specialized research vessels for real-world data collection and modeling applications.

The South California campus buzzes with culture—at the La Jolla Playhouse and Birch Aquarium—and its academic resources give you unique opportunities to apply engineering and mathematical models to challenges in healthcare, oceanography, and sustainable technologies.

Courses

Academics
This intensive 20-hour course teaches you to predict system behaviors experiments often can't reveal. You develop mathematical models for real engineering systems and demonstrate their application in analysis, design, and optimization, as well as constraint handling. On this comprehensive course, your learning covers model classification, derivation techniques, and methods for complex interconnected systems—giving you essential skills for a successful career in engineering, biotech, and finance.

Workshops, Site Visits & Guest Lectures
You visit UCSD’s student-focused innovation building to explore The Basement, MakerSpace, and MAVERiC Studio. The guest lecture, by a prominent scholar or researcher, discusses Innovations in Engineering and Mathematical Modelling.

Cultural Activities
UCSD cultural ambassadors guide you around the best of Southern California, taking you on excursions to places like the amphibious San Diego SEAL Tour, Birch Aquarium’s 3,000 marine animals, the Comic-Con Museum, or to a San Diego FC soccer match.

Day Trip
