The University of Westminster opened in 1838 and counts among its alumni fashion designer Vivienne Westwood, design heavyweight Christopher Bailey, and Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters. 

In 1841, Westminster opened the first public photographic portrait studio in Europe, and in 1896, the Lumière brothers hosted the UK’s first public moving-picture display here.

You complete your  semester with:

  • Increased confidence and ability to communicate effectively in academic English
  • Improved performance in all four language skills in the context of your studies
  • Developed critical and analytical skills key to succeeding at the university in academic coursework in the subsequent semester
  • Increased independence as a learner

Courses

As a student in the language portion of the pathway program, you learn in small groups and receive individual personal attention from your teachers throughout the program via tutorials and feedback sessions.

At the end of the language semester, you take a test to determine your language progress. The modules you can take in the subsequent academic term depend on this score.

Classroom Hours
The SAF program fee tuition rate covers 23 hours of language instruction per week and 60 undergraduate academic credits per term.

  • Reading and Writing (15 hours per week)
  • Listening and Speaking (8 hours per week)

Application Requirements

When applying to study abroad, you must meet the entry requirements set by the host university - and SAF is here to set you up for success.

The requirements outlined in this section include the language proficiency scores you may need to demonstrate your language skills, a guide to the GPA range and other academic prerequisites required by your host university, and a list of documentation and other application materials you will need to finalize your application. You may need to supply additional information throughout the process, and you will be alerted through your emails and SAF Student Portal if this is the case for you.

Language Test Score Requirements

To prove your language proficiency, you can use any of the following:

  • IELTS: 5.0 *Minimum sub-score is 4.5 for each sub-band
  • TOEFL iBT: 57
  • Duolingo: 95

Note: The University of Westminster makes the final determination on progressing to academic programs based on an exam at the end of a student's English language program.

You need to submit a transcript with one complete year of study with your application. Some modules may require you to submit additional documentation.

The SAF program fee includes a shared accommodation with roommates on campus. Some accommodations have communal study areas and activity centers where you can meet your fellow peers.
