The Internship Process and Its Details

Finding a job requires experience, but getting hands-on experience is impossible without a job. Students and new grads trying to get into their industries may find this perplexing dilemma a significant source of stress. Internships provide a solution with temporary jobs that offer opportunities for practical involvement in a career path that interests them. This type of program is the first step into the workforce for some recent grads.

SAF and IES Abroad help students plan and organize study abroad and internship programs worldwide. There are opportunities throughout the year, such as the University of California, Berkeley summer internship in the San Francisco Bay Area. Or, if you’re up for a longer program, immerse yourself in living in Seoul while gaining practical experience through Hanyang University's internship program. You get to work 20–25 hours a week for a major Korean business while attending one of the country’s best universities. With years of expertise managing complete study abroad programs, SAF has set up applications, lodging, orientation, insurance, and student assistance while working and studying abroad.

Beginning Steps

Consider your interests and desired skill sets before applying for an internship. Knowing what you want to accomplish makes finding an opportunity that excites you much easier. Look at the internship pages on SAF and IES to see if your questions are answered in the Q&A section.

Deciding on the Appropriate Internship

Apply Now

After you submit an internship application, SAF and IES will help you locate a job in your desired field, as there are countless opportunities across various subjects and specialties. SAF does its best to tailor each internship experience to each participant by considering their unique interests, skills, and the requirements of their internship hosts. Even while the Placement Team collaborates with hundreds of companies, they can't tell you which company will accept you until you've officially completed the application and enrollment process.

Suppose you still cannot secure a suitable internship placement two weeks before the program start date. In that case, you can receive a full refund or transfer to another IES Abroad program of equal duration and value in the exact location. Of course, this is subject to meeting the academic program requirements of IES Internships and visa requirements.

What You Gain

An internship may be a great way to get experience before applying for a full-time position. It is important to note that only unpaid internships are available via SAF and IES Abroad. While overseas, every internship student will participate in a class for credit that counts toward their degree, depending on their home institution's policies. Building your portfolio, developing cross-cultural skills and confidence, landing a job more quickly, getting into your preferred graduate program, and becoming an experienced traveler are all made possible by internships.

Your speaking and planning skills can improve as an intern, and you will learn how to get along with individuals from many walks of life in the workplace. In addition, you can watch experts at work and learn how they handle different tasks. As a new employee, you can observe your colleagues to gain insight into their work processes.
