Student Counselor SAFFY

Your Student Counselor is your study abroad ambassador and supporter. They join your application journey when you’ve confirmed you’re interested in studying abroad. At this point, they guide you through each stage of the application, notify you of the documents you need, let you know when your admission results are in, and walk you through the next steps, including class enrollment and organizing pre-arrival tests.

Academics

London College of Communication, a powerhouse in media education, has shaped many of today’s leading voices in journalism and digital creation, with BBC executives, award-winning journalists, and pioneering digital creators among its alumni.

The college’s reputation for excellence, combined with its industry-active faculty and innovative approach to digital media, makes it an ideal environment for you to develop their unique voice and vision.

Courses

Course restrictions 

UAL has a tailored pathway for study abroad students, so, for the most part, your lessons are alongside other international students. You must have finished at least one year of undergraduate study to apply. 
 

Class hours 

Over 13 weeks, you enjoy between 120 and 160 hours of face-to-face tuition from practicing communication experts. You also complete the same number of hours studying, researching, and reading beyond the classroom to further your understanding of media, culture, and communication. 
 

Core and elective courses 

You take three mandatory cultural units and three core course units, all two credits each. 

Core courses

You take three core UAL Study Abroad Semester modules worth two credits each: 

  1. Understanding Contemporary Cultures 
  2. London Cultural Studies 
  3. Creative Histories 

You have three core communication courses:

  1. Introduction to Media Communication 
  2. Creative and Technical Skills 
  3. Brand Storytelling 

Electives 

You can choose up to 16 credits worth of elective courses:

  • Print and Online Journalism (2 credits)
  • Activism and Social Justice (2 credits)

When applying to study abroad, you must meet the entry requirements set by the host university - and SAF is here to set you up for success.

The requirements outlined in this section include the language proficiency scores you may need to demonstrate your language skills, a guide to the GPA range and other academic prerequisites required by your host university, and a list of documentation and other application materials you will need to finalize your application. You may need to supply additional information throughout the process, and you will be alerted through your emails and SAF Student Portal if this is the case for you.

When studying abroad, you will want to consider the time of year and how long you are away. Most programs follow the host university's academic calendar.

The dates shown below are general estimates, and as you get closer to the start of the term, you will get more detailed information from SAF. If you have any questions, your Student Counsellor and Program Specialist are always here to support you and point you to the correct information.

Housing Information

On-campus dormitory

Your UAL home is a fully furnished ensuite single room in university accommodation, with everything you need for a comfortable semester—bed, desk, and wardrobe as well as a shared kitchen and laundry.

Beyond your private space, you have access to studio workshops, an art gallery, and peaceful courtyards.

For more luxury, when accepting your offer to UAL, you can upgrade to a premium studio with your own kitchen or a room in the sought-after Glassyard Building.
