About the University

About IES Abroad London Center

London’s IES Abroad Center is in Bloomsbury, a bohemian neighborhood famous since the early 20th century for its artists, writers, and intellectuals. Study in a grand 18th-century Georgian building with classrooms overlooking tree-lined squares, and share lunch with new friends on the patio. You’re just a two-minute walk from the British Museum—the oldest national public museum in the world—where inspiration lives in the incredible collection of antiquities reflecting human history and culture.

Academics

The study tour blends four strands of learning to deliver a fully comprehensive program over two weeks.

In English language classes, you dive into specialized medical vocabulary and idioms, so you are prepared to effectively talk to patients in a clinical setting.

Guest lectures and medical industry site visits bolster your classroom learning, encouraging you to explore healthcare policies and systems and understand the variety of medical careers open to you.

A four- part healthcare seminar takes you into the differences of international healthcare systems, opening the floor to debate as you analyze how those systems work— and, at times, fail.

Ultimately, you combine and present your learnings in a small- team Capstone Project.

Courses

Your two weeks of study tour are filled with experiences and learning opportunities. After a comprehensive induction of tours, orientation, and welcome event with meal, your learning starts in earnest.

Throughout the program, you will participate in medical English classes to elevate your language skills, so you are confident to talk to patients in a clinical setting. During this time, you also work on your Capstone Project in a small team.

Over the two weeks, you have four two-hour global healthcare seminars and four guest lectures and/or site visits to complement your learning.

While you’re in London, you live like a local, and as a group, you also enjoy two cultural visits to world-class museums or an iconic historic site or two.
