About the Program

With an emphasis on international trade and business development between Japan and Australia, this intensive two-week study tour gives you a comprehensive dive into Sydney’s business environment. You join a select group of likeminded students on excursions, daily fieldwork, and reflective journalling as you explore the diversity of businesses in Australia, ably guided by guest speakers and industry experts.

About the University

IES Abroad Sydney Center

Sydney’s IES Abroad Center is in up-and-coming Chatswood, a diverse suburb in the Lower North Shore that’s highly regarded for its vibrant entertainment precinct, lush parks, and amazing Asian food scene. In this peaceful corner of the city, students connect to practice language skills, study and indulge in authentic yum cha or bubble tea. And you’re virtually next door to The Concourse, a spectacular arts complex featuring a concert hall, theater, library, and restaurants. 

Academics

In a series of business seminars, site visits, and guest lectures, you work through the fundamentals of business development in Sydney. With a strong focus on key sectors of the city’s economy, you also develop a grasp on how the Japan–Australia trade relationship has grown over the decades and how they work together. 

Courses

Intercultural Communication Training

Deep dive into cross cultural training throughout the experience, helping you develop an understanding of Australian culture and the benefits of working with cultural sensitivity.

Business Lectures

Learn about business culture in Australia and gain insight into industries such as tourism, sports, education, and non-profit.

Site Visits & Guest Lectures

Site visits and guest lectures will showcase the diversity of businesses in Australia and help you conceptualize a future career related to the industries discussed.

Capstone Project

Immersed in the diversity of business in Australia and with an ever-developing understanding of intercultural communication, you work towards a capstone project discussing the differences between Australian and Japanese business cultures.

Cultural Activities

To give you time to digest the academic elements of the program, IES Abroad staff will organize unique cultural experiences and share their local knowledge for you to explore Sydney.

Day Trip

Spend a full day outside of Sydney, exploring the gorgeous natural environment of New South Wales.

When applying to study abroad, you must meet the entry requirements of the program—and SAF is here to set you up for success.

The requirements outlined in this section include the language proficiency scores you may need to demonstrate your language skills, a guide to the GPA range and other academic prerequisites required by the program, and a list of documentation and other application materials you will need to finalize your application. You will need to supply additional information throughout the process, and our helpful team will alert you via email or your MyIESAbroad Student Portal whenever this is necessary.

Housing Information

In your two-bedroom apartment in a multi-unit apartment building, you share your study-aboard experience with three same-gender roommates. You have linen and a bath pack at your apartment and a self-catering kitchen so you can really get into living the Australian life while you’re here.
