Course restrictions
To apply, you must have finished one semester of an eligible Berkeley Global Program: Berkeley Engineering, Berkeley Entrepreneurship and Technology, Berkeley Haas Business, Berkeley Humanities and Social Sciences, Berkeley Multidisciplinary, or Berkeley Physics.
During the semester before your summer internship, you work with the SAF internship placement team to identify an internship position that suits your personal and professional goals. Your internship is unpaid, but you will receive academic credit.
With the SAF Staff support, you apply for one internship at a time. Placement is guaranteed, but you might find it more challenging to secure a placement in:
- Aeronautical or nuclear engineering (consider industrial engineering instead)
- Architecture (consider marketing/operations internships in an architecture firm)
- Clinical medicine/clinical psychology (consider organizations that assist target patient populations without direct patient interaction)
- Energy (oil and gas) (consider renewable energy)
- Engineering (civil, mechanical, and chemical) (consider a support role in an engineering company instead)
- Finance, investment banking, banking, asset management (highly competitive; consider opportunities at other companies’ finance departments or business analyst positions)
- Film/TV broadcasting (consider behind-the-scenes support in research, logistics, or post-production work)
- IT (hardware) (consider marketing/operations internships in an IT hardware firm)
- Classroom education (consider non-profits)
- Political think tanks (consider non-profits)
- Social services/healthcare (consider marketing/operations in a relevant organization)
- Special education (consider non-profits)
