About the University

About IES Abroad Barcelona Center

The IES Abroad Center in Barcelona is near Plaza Catalunya, a lively square and a locals’ favorite. Study abroad in Barcelona and immerse yourself in a stunning area alive with shops, department stores, and cafés serving traditional Catalan dishes. From your spacious multimedia classrooms and the center’s study lounges and large outdoor terrace, you’re steps from the sculptures, lawns, fountains, and memories of the city’s most well-to-do addresses.

Academics

If you are ready to shape the future of technology, this immersive two-week course develops your understanding of AI, from key concepts to the real-world application of machine learning, computer vision, and natural-language processing. It uses hands-on workshops to bring theory to life.

You explore how AI can transform healthcare, finance, and entertainment as you apply cutting-edge tools and programming to further your grasp of the technologies. In practical sessions, you discuss the ethical questions of AI’s impact on society—and you explore how you can map your own career in this booming field.

Courses

To compliment your classroom learning, you go on four site visits to companies and organizations with a  strong focus on using AI.

While AI is the focus of your time in Barcelona, there is also a lot of real world to explore, so there are three cultural experiences built into your program. You visit the extraordinary architectural wonder that is the Sagrada Familia cathedral, you roam the Museum of the History of Barcelona, and you take a tapas cooking class.

Should you have any time spare, your program fee also includes a public transport pass, so you can adventure further afield, maybe to visit the lively Las Ramblas boulevard.

Program Dates

When studying abroad, you will want to consider the time of year and how long you are away. Most programs follow the host university's academic calendar.

The dates shown below are general estimates, and as you get closer to the start of the term, you will get more detailed information from SAF. If you have any questions, your Student Counsellor and Program Specialist are always here to support you and point you to the correct information.

Housing Information

As academic study tours are typically a short, intense period of exploration and discovery, with a narrow lens on a specific theme, they usually last a few weeks—shorter than the normal study abroad experience—and sometimes travel to multiple destinations.

During your time in Barcelona, you live in a fully furnished residence hall on the vibrant La Salle Barcelona Campus. You have a private room with a kitchen, bathroom, and study space—all completely self-contained.

There are plenty of social and common spaces, as well as a gym, making it easy to socialize and make friends with people on your study tour.

Every day, you enjoy breakfast in the hall’s cafeteria, and, when you have classes on campus, you also have lunch provided. For food, the rest of the time, you have the vast city of Barcelona, from the Collserola National Park to the Mediterranean Sea, to explore and eat your way around.

Each program has different accommodation requirements, so SAF plans for each diligently. Program advisors can share more detailed information and field additional questions.
