About the Program

DCU International Academy provides fast paced learner-centered intensive English language study and students will have the opportunity to enjoy Irish-themed and contemporary relevant topics as they improve their English language skills. DCU International Academy attracts students from across the globe ensuring a dynamic, multi-cultural classroom experience. Classes usually meet in the morning with 20 hours of English instruction per week as well as social activities allow students to engage with the rich Irish culture.

Your Student Counselor is your study abroad ambassador and supporter. They join your application journey when you’ve confirmed you’re interested in studying abroad. At this point, they guide you through each stage of the application, notify you of the documents you need, let you know when your admission results are in, and walk you through the next steps, including class enrollment and organizing pre-arrival tests.

Courses

DCU’s Standalone Language program, the General English Course, provides 20 hours of instruction each week. You study with a global cohort of students of a similar language proficiency to your own, immersing yourself in Irish-themed lessons and cultural activities that help your language skills flourish. 

Lessons run Monday to Friday between 9AM and 1PM or 2PM to 6PM. These four-hour core-program class periods divide into two sessions each, with a 20-minute break. Outside class time, there is a social program for you to practice your language in real-life situations and deepen your cultural understanding.

When applying to study abroad, you must meet the entry requirements set by the host university - and SAF is here to set you up for success.

The requirements outlined in this section include the language proficiency scores you may need to demonstrate your language skills, a guide to the GPA range and other academic prerequisites required by your host university, and a list of documentation and other application materials you will need to finalize your application. You may need to supply additional information throughout the process, and you will be alerted through your emails and SAF Student Portal if this is the case for you.

Language Test Score Requirements

There are no requirements to join this program. An online placement test prior to departing your home country determines your skill level.

Housing Information

Homestay

During your time in Dublin, you live with a local family in a homestay, having a single room with space to study and sharing the family kitchen, bathroom, and living spaces. You dine with your Irish family, taking breakfast and dinner with them from Monday to Friday and sharing all weekend meals. This gives you a valuable opportunity to practice your language learning in a safe, nurturing environment.
