About the Program

Your program takes place in Paris, where you’ll appreciate how the city has developed around the central idea of cultural heritage and patrimony. Your course will integrate class time with course-related trips to art and cultural management institutions, including visits to well-known museums such as the Musée d’Orsay and the Louvre. 

You will learn about the development of the history of art as you experience the City of Light and delve into in the social functions and aesthetics of art and museums.

About the University

About IES Abroad Paris Center

IES Abroad Paris French Studies Center is on the left bank of the River Seine in the heart of laidback Montparnasse. Along with modern classrooms and a library, this Paris center has its own garden where you can take your books to study or practice your language skills with friends. Step outside to explore this bohemian Parisian neighborhood and artistic hub filled with creperies, brasseries, cafés, and galleries.

Our mission is simple: to provide you with the best study abroad program possible—which includes the highest quality academic and cultural experiences. 

Our Museums, Art, & Culture courses are designed to help you discover the richness, complexity, and variety of museums and cultural preservation in the French capital city. During your studies, you will explore Paris with your instructor and benefit from their perspective and expertise.

Courses

You will enroll in one course worth 3 credits. Courses are taught in English at the IES Abroad Center by local faculty. Planned course offerings include: 

  • AH 215 - History of Paris in Art and Architecture: This class retraces the major steps in the evolution of the city of Paris through art and architecture, with particular attention on the Second Empire and the major urban planning programs conducted by the Baron Haussmann in the 19th century. 
  • AH 320 - Paris 19th Century Art: Impressionism and Post-Impressionism: This course provides an in-depth study and pictorial survey of Impressionism, its origins and its legacy presented from a general overview of the evolution of painting, with a focus on key elements in the Impressionist movement such as composition, color and style.

Application Requirements

When applying to study abroad, you must meet the entry requirements of the program—and SAF is here to set you up for success.

The requirements outlined in this section include the language proficiency scores you may need to demonstrate your language skills, a guide to the GPA range and other academic prerequisites required by the program, and a list of documentation and other application materials you will need to finalize your application. You will need to supply additional information throughout the process, and our helpful team will alert you via email or your MyIESAbroad Student Portal whenever this is necessary.

On Arrival

Your SAF pre-departure process will arm you with all the information you need for a smooth arrival to your new campus, city, and country.
