The University of Westminster opened in 1838 and counts among its alumni fashion designer Vivienne Westwood, design heavyweight Christopher Bailey, and Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters. Your Student Counselor is your study abroad ambassador and supporter. They join your application journey when you’ve confirmed you’re interested in studying abroad. At this point, they guide you through each stage of the application, notify you of the documents you need, let you know when your admission results are in, and walk you through the next steps, including class enrollment and organizing pre-arrival tests.

Academics

University of Westminster's Academic Approach

The University of Westminster has 12- or 16-credit hour terms as well as internships to complement your taught modules. If you want to tailor your study abroad experience to fit many different aspects of study, this is the perfect fit.

The Professional and Personal Skills Development component is worth 20 UK credits and sits alongside two modules for one semester, either fall or spring (not both), should you prefer the internship pathway over the more traditional three-module taught courses.

Course & Departmental Restrictions

Media + Arts and Design classes have higher requirements

For one Semester:

For School of Arts and the School of Media and Communication, a minimum score of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent is required, with a minimum of 6.0 in each element.

For all other schools, an overall score of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent is required.

For one academic year of study:

For the School of Arts and the School of Media and Communication, a minimum score of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent is required, with a minimum of 6.0 in each element.

For all other schools, an overall score of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent is required, with a minimum of 5.5 in each element.

The single-term (fall or spring, not both) concurrent internship is only available if you designate the Professional and Personal Skills Development (20 UK credits) course as one of your choices on the Course Preference form. The university handles all details related to the possible internship course. The University of Westminster will provide an additional document to select roles and fields for your single-semester internship. This information will enable the university to identify an appropriate internship opportunity for you.

Application Requirements

When applying to study abroad, you must meet the entry requirements set by the host university - and SAF is here to set you up for success.

The requirements outlined in this section include the language proficiency scores you may need to demonstrate your language skills, a guide to the GPA range and other academic prerequisites required by your host university, and a list of documentation and other application materials you will need to finalize your application. You may need to supply additional information throughout the process, and you will be alerted through your emails and SAF Student Portal if this is the case for you.

Language Test Score Requirements

To prove your language proficiency, you can use any of the following:

  • IELTS: 6.0 *Minimum sub-score is 5.5
  • TOEFL iBT: 78
  • Duolingo: 115 *Minimum sub-score is 100
  • CET 4: 493
  • CET 6: 450

You must submit a transcript with one complete year of study with your application.

Some modules may require you to submit additional documentation.

On-campus dormitory

The SAF program fee includes a shared accommodation with roommates on campus. Some accommodations have communal study areas and activity centers where you can meet your fellow peers.
