Academics

University of Manchester's Academic Approach

Manchester is strong in many disciplines. Currently, some of the university’s most popular majors are life sciences, engineering, humanities, economics, sociology, and the social sciences

Build your own for-credit academic schedule to enhance your home degree studies as you work alongside talented students in a collaborative, competitive, and lively environment.

Your highly qualified teachers are active researchers who are changing the paradigm with their new understandings, passionate about inspiring you with deeply transformative academic experiences.

Courses

You submit a study plan at time of application and the university registers your courses. You need to make sure you meet the specific English requirement for each course you choose. There is an add/drop period for a short window after arrival.

Course & Departmental Restrictions

Many departments have restrictions or prerequisites on higher-level courses.

If you want to study business for either fall semester or spring semester must apply by the fall semester deadlines to enroll in courses (i.e., spring semester enrollment takes place in November) as business courses fill up quickly.

Courses in dentistry, pharmacy, medicine, electrical engineering, and midwifery are not available to study abroad students.

Because of COVID-19 some courses also have restrictions

Chemical, mechanical, aerospace, civil engineering are open. Engineering subjects do not permit alternative assessment, so you would have to physically take a test in Manchester in late January. The expectation is that most of these tests will be administered online.

Chemistry, earth sciences, materials, maths, physics, biology courses have the same restrictions on testing as engineering, but these tests are also expected to be given online. It is likely that chemistry and biology may require you to sit a physical test if safe to do so.

All subjects listed in link below are available to SAF students:
